Extremely rare Longines "George VI Coronation" Art Deco design men's pocket watch in solid platinum, circa 1938.

Longines presented special watches to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth for their coronation at Westminster Abbey in London on May 12, 1937, and these same special "Coronation" models were subsequently available to the public through Longines retailers. All of these watches were housed in either solid gold or platinum cases. This platinum-cased "Coronation" pocket watch was priced at $350.00 in 1938 and is extremely rare. This is the only example I have ever seen of the platinum pocket watch model. It is in excellent condition showing only light wear and a few light marks to the unpolished solid platinum case. Caseback has a fantastic Art Deco design monogram displaying "M.D." Case measures 45mm in diameter. Older refinished sector design dial is excellent, with some slight patina. Has solid gold applied numerals and markers. Glass crystal is excellent. The watch is powered by its correct, highest grade 21-jewel Longines Extra Superior caliber 17.45 rose gilt-finished manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
