Elgin "Ziggurat" men's Machine Age design wristwatch in 10K yellow rolled gold plate, circa 1935.
This is a jobber-cased model (in contrast to a factory-cased model); many jewelry wholesalers placed name-brand watch movements in inexpensive custom gold-plated and chrome cases and offered them through mail order and credit jewelry establishments. With its fantastic quadruple-stepped case, this model has one of the more elegant designs of the many, many dozens of variations offered throughout the 1930s. It is in excellent condition showing only light brassing to the highpoints. Caseback is excellent, with an engraving from 1935. Case measures 37mm long and 29mm wide. Original Elgin dial and blued steel hands are superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by a 7-jewel Elgin grade 485 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
