Scarce Elgin “Aztec” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel, circa 1931.

Elgin catalogued this watch as the “Senior 952” but its fantastic geometric black-inlaid bezel designs reminiscent of the carvings on ancient Aztec temples in Mexico has inspired most collectors to call it the “Aztec.” It was priced at $25.00 in 1931. It is a very difficult watch to find and is among the most desirable of all Art Deco Elgin wristwatches. This example is in very good condition showing only light wear and scratching to the chromium plating on the bezel. The caseback is fair, with some plating loss and scratches. The case measures 35mm long and 25mm wide. Original dial is fair. Can be refinished for additional cost. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 488 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
