Scarce Elgin “Model 1601” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1929.

Early solid gold men’s Elgin wristwatches are quite scarce, as the company focused its marketing efforts on lower cost gold-filled and nickel cased watches. The “Model 1601” has a simple barrel-shaped case with Art Deco engravings around the sides and sold for $50.00 in 1929. The dial has unique gold embossed exploding numerals set against a subtle pebble-textured gray background. It is in excellent condition showing only very slight wear. Caseback is excellent, with an Art Nouveau Oriental style monogram. Case measures 34mm long and 27mm wide. Original dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Elgin grade 428 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
