Scarce Elgin "Semi-Hermetic" men's Military design wristwatch in nickel, circa 1920.
This trench-style watch has a semi-hermetic case made by the Illinois Watch Case Co. of Elgin, Illinois and has a bezel and caseback that screw on to provide better protection against dust and moisture. This version has conventional lugs that take spring bars and a regular strap and seems to be scarcer than the version with wire lugs. This example is in crisp, excellent condition showing only very slight wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. The case measures 39mm long and 32mm wide. Original black glass enamel Star dial is very good, with some very faint hairline cracks. Has original extra thick "unbreakable" glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 462 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
