Rare Elgin “Avigo 475” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel, circa 1931.

Aviation was all the rage in the rage in the 1930s and Elgin introduced a series of aviation-themed watches to capitalize on the aviation craze. The “Avigo 475” has an Army Air Corps specification black dial with large numerals and the winged Avigo logo. It has a cushion-shaped case with Art Deco stylized wings engraved on the bezel highlighted with black inlay. It was priced at $22.50 in 1931. The watch is in crisp, near mint condition showing no wear or pitting to the chromium plating. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 37mm long and 30mm wide. Refinished black dial is superb, has new vintage-style luminous. Has new glass crystal. I have replaced the original 7-jewel grade 485 movement with a more reliable 17-jewel Elgin grade 487 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.

Price $550. SOLD
