Rare Lord Elgin “Unidentified Model” men’s Retro Modern design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold, circa 1948.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s Elgin offered many different models of men's wristwatches in solid gold. Most were cataloged for only a year or two, and none seem to have been made in great numbers. I have only seen a handful of this model, it is quite rare. It is a properly signed, factory-cased model, but its Elgin model or name designation has yet to be discovered from existing Elgin documents. It is in excellent condition showing only light wear. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with two tiny dings. This case was manufactured with male lug pins, but one hooded lug has regular lug holes to take conventional spring bars. Case measures 37mm long and 24mm wide. Older refinished dial is excellent, has solid gold applied numerals and markers. Has new domed acrylic crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 21-jewel Elgin grade 559 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
