Uncommon Elgin “Oval” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K white gold fill, circa 1929.
This striking model was catalogued as the “Model 663,” but most Elgin collectors refer to it as the “Oval” due to its remarkable resemblance to the Hamilton “Oval.” Indeed, the Elgin “Oval” and the Hamilton “Oval” were both produced by the Fahys Watch Case Co. It was priced at $48.00 in 1929. It is very scarce with the black numeral dial. This example is in crisp, near mint condition with no brassing. Engraved bezel designs and bold and sharp. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 37mm long and 28mm wide. Original, factory new old stock dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Elgin grade 428 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
