Scarce Hamilton "Lowell" men's Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid 14K yellow gold, circa 1937.
The "Lowell" was named for Lowell F. Halligan (1900 to 1968), who was director of sales research at Hamilton, and later served as vice-president and as a member of Hamilton's board of directors. He was also advertising manager at Illinois Watch after Hamilton purchased the company. Much of the information we know today about Hamilton's watches is due to Halligan's efforts to compile and preserve sales records of each watch model Hamilton produced. This example is in excellent condition showing light wear. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 35mm long and 21mm wide. Original dial is excellent with very slight patina, has solid 18K applied numerals. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 19-jewel Hamilton grade 982 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
