Scarce Elgin “Lady and Tiger” ladies’ Art Deco design wristwatch in solid 14K white and green gold with black and amber enamel, circa 1928.
In the 1920s, no other watch manufacturer could match Elgin’s Art Deco designs for ladies’ wristwatches. Elgin retained top designers of international prominence to create some fantastic designs. The “Lady and Tiger” is perhaps the most famous and sought-after of the enamel watches from this period and features a 1920s flapper girl on one side and a roaring tiger on the other. It was priced to consumers at $65.00 in 1928. This example is in crisp, near mint showing almost no. Enamel is superb and complete. Hinged caseback is superb, with most of its original factory-applied brushed finish. The case measures 30mm long and 17mm wide. Original dial is superb, has gold embossed numerals. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Elgin grade 484 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong. Has period silk grosgrain strap and white gold-filled clasp.
