Scarce Hamilton “Tonneau” men’s Art Deco design presentation wristwatch in solid 14K white gold, circa 1929.
With its large distinctive case, the “Tonneau” is one of the classic Hamilton designs from the 1920s. It was priced to consumers at $85.00 in 1929 and only 1,887 were produced in solid white gold. This example was a presentation to Chief Frank Charlesworth of the Providence, Rhode Island Fire Department for serving as the first president of the Fire Chiefs Club of Rhode Island from 1928 to 1929. Charlesworth served multiple terms as president. This example is in excellent condition with only light wear. Caseback is excellent with an elaborate presentation engraving. Case measures 34mm long and 27mm wide. Two-tone dial is very good, with some patina. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Hamilton grade 987 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
