Rare Lord Elgin “Model 4501” men’s Machine Age design wristwatch in solid platinum, circa 1941.

The “Model 4501” is one of only four men's wristwatch models that Elgin made in platinum. It was priced at $225.00 in 1941, and is quite rare. It is much rarer than its Hamilton contemporary, the “Rutledge.” It has a rectangular case with faceted, hooded lugs. This example is in excellent condition showing only very light wear and a few light marks. It still retains most of its factory-applied lapped and brushed finishes. Caseback is excellent, with a presentation engraving from 1941. The case measures 36mm long and 20mm wide. Original dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 21-jewel Elgin grade 558 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong. Has period Elgin-marked gray calfskin strap and Elgin buckle.

Price $1,600. SOLD
