Gruen Ristside Varsity
Very scarce Gruen "Ristside Varsity" men's Art Deco design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold fill and steel, circa 1938.
The "Ristside Varsity" is a true driver’s watch, and has a deeply curved case and lugs designed to be worn only on the inner side of the wrist. This is one of the non-Curvex versions that Gruen offered as an alternative to the more expensive Ristside Curvex models. It was priced at $29.75 in 1938. This example is in crisp, near mint condition with no brassing. Caseback is superb and unengraved with all of its factory-applied brushed finish. The case measures 40mm long and 23mm wide. Refinished two-tone dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Gruen grade 400 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
