Elgin Legionnaire 404
Rare Elgin “Legionnaire 404” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K green gold fill and chromium nickel, circa 1929.
Normally found with an embossed numeral dial or full luminous dial, this uncataloged dial with black stylized Oriental numerals is very rare. This Elgin has a large two-tone case with an engraved bezel and engraved case sides. It was priced at $23.00 in 1929. This example is in excellent condition with some very light wear to the chromium plating of the bezel and a little brassing to the tips of the lugs. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a faint dent, but no pitting or corrosion. The case measures 39mm long and 31mm wide. Original dial is superb. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 485 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
