Scarce Elgin “Avigo 475” men’s Art Deco design wristwatch in chromium nickel, circa 1931.

Aviation was all the rage in the rage in the early 1930s and Elgin introduced a series of aviation-themed watches to capitalize on the aviation craze. The “Avigo 475” has an Air Corps specification black dial with large numerals and the winged Avigo logo. It has a cushion-shaped case with Art Deco stylized wings engraved on the bezel highlighted with black inlay. It was priced at $22.50 in 1931. This dial is an original new old stock dial, with restored luminous. The watch is in excellent condition showing only very faint scratching to the chromium plating. Caseback is excellent, with some minor scratches and pitting. Case measures 37mm long and 30mm wide. Original new old stock matte black dial is superb, has restored luminous. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 7-jewel Elgin grade 485 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
