Very scarce Wittnauer "Stepped Tank" men's Art Deco design wristwatch in 14K yellow gold fill, circa 1931.
Wittnauer is mostly known as Longines' U.S. agent in the 1920s and 1930s, importing movements and casing them in New York. But Wittnauer also sold watches under its own name, using many of the same case designs as it used for Longines. This large tank has a triple-stepped case and houses Wittnauer's large, rectangular movement. It is in crisp, excellent condition with only a few specks of brassing. Caseback is excellent and unengraved. Has original large winding crown. The case measures 38mm long and 24mm wide. Original inlaid enamel dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Wittnauer 9.47 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
