Very rare Gruen "Military Wristwatch" men's Military design wristwatch in sterling silver, circa 1918.

Gruen offered military design wristwatches during World War I in a variety of case styles. This is only the second example I have seen of the square version, it is very rare. This example belonged to Private First Class George A. Bechtol of New Castle, Pennsylvania. Bechtol enlisted in March of 1918 and was stationed at the School of Military Aeronautics in Austin, Texas then the Aviation Concentration Camp at Camp Dix, Texas then the Park Field Flying School in Memphis, Tennessee. He was honorably discharged after the war ended in November of 1918. The watch is in excellent condition showing light wear and a few light marks. Caseback is excellent. The case measures 38mm long and 26mm wide. Dial is very good. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 15-jewel Gruen Rebberg manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
