Rare Longines "President Cleveland" men's Retro Modern design wristwatch in solid 14K pink gold, circa 1941.
Beginning in the late 1930s, Longines began naming some of its solid gold models after U.S. presidents. This smaller-sized model has stepped and rounded lugs and a dial set with genuine rubies. It was priced at $90.00 in 1941. Very few watch manufacturers offered dials with gemstones other than diamonds, and genuine factory dials set with rubies are very unusual. This example is in excellent condition showing only light wear. Caseback has a presentation engraving from December of 1941. The case measures 33mm long and 22mm wide. Refinished copper-hued dial is excellent with some slight patina. Has genuine rubies set at 12, 3, and 9, and gold applied markers at the remaining hour positions. Acrylic crystal is excellent. The watch is powered by its correct Longines 17-jewel caliber 8LN manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
