Very scarce Hamilton “Sentinel” men’s Modern design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold over sterling silver, circa 1944.

The “Sentinel” with the black Arabic numeral dial first appeared in 1942 and is quite scarce. Around 1943, Hamilton began producing watches with cases using 10K yellow gold over a sterling silver base, as brass had become a critical war material. These gold and sterling "Sentinel" cases are about 15% heavier than the usual gold filled ones and are stamped "A.G." in the caseback to denote this alternate case composition. This example is in crisp, excellent condition with no brassing and is the nicest "Sentinel" that I have ever offered. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with no wear. The case measures 36mm long and 29mm wide. Original dial is superb. Glass crystal is excellent. This watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Hamilton grade 987S manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
