Very scarce Hamilton “Sentinel” men’s Modern design wristwatch in 10K yellow gold over sterling silver, circa 1943.
The “Sentinel” with the black Arabic numeral dial first appeared in 1942 and is quite scarce. Around 1943, Hamilton began producing watches with cases using gold over a sterling silver base, as brass had become a critical war material. These "Sentinel" cases are about 15% heavier than the usual ones and are stamped "A.G." in the caseback to denote this alternate case composition. This example is in excellent condition with only light brassing to the lugs. Caseback is excellent and unengraved, with a few tiny dings. The case measures 36mm long and 29mm wide. Refinished dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Hamilton grade 987S manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong
