Extremely rare Hamilton “Cambridge Diamond Dial” men’s Streamline Moderne design wristwatch in solid platinum, circa 1947.
The “Cambridge” is a rare watch and described in the Hamilton catalog as the “...distinctive mark of a man who is free to choose as he will.” It is shown in the catalog with an applied numeral dial, but Hamilton's dealer price lists also show it available with a variety of diamond-set dials for an extra charge, including this version with eleven round diamonds. This eleven-diamond version was priced at an exorbitant $530.00 in 1947 and was one of the most expensive men's wristwatches that Hamilton ever offered. It is extremely rare and this is one of only a handful I have ever seen. This example is in crisp, near mint condition showing almost no wear. All the case and lug edges are sharp. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Refinished inlaid enamel dial is superb, and set with eleven genuine, high-quality diamonds at the Hamilton factory. Has new glass crystal. This watch is powered by its correct 19-jewel Hamilton grade 982M manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong. Also has its original brushed platinum finish winding crown. Original Hamilton gray calfskin strap is superb, has modern plated buckle... I can add an original Hamilton-signed platinum buckle for an extra charge.
Price $2,350. SOLD
