Very scarce Gruen "Pan American" men's Military design wristwatch in chromium nickel and steel, circa 1945.

This uncatalogued version of the "Pan American" has a sub-seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position instead of the usual sweep seconds found on other Pan American models. The caseback is also marked "Gruen Pan American." A small number of these have been found over the years with case and movement serial numbers within a similar range. This example is in excellent condition showing only very light wear to the chromium plating on the bezel. Underside of lug correctly marked with "N" to denote the nickel composition of the bezel. Steel screwdown caseback is excellent with some light scratches. The case measures 40mm long and 32mm wide. Original dial is excellent, has unusual alternating black printed and luminous 12 and 24-hour numerals. Hands have new luminous. Has new acrylic crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Gruen grade 420 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
