Elgin "Bentley" men's Art Deco design wristwatches in yellow gold plate and stainless steel, circa 1938.
This large, striking watch has an Elgin 18/0-size movement housed in a jobber-supplied, non-factory case. During the Great Depression, not many could afford a new watch, so it was common for good running movements to be re-cased in various case styles offered by discount jewelry supply houses and wholesalers. This example is in crisp, near mint condition showing no wear. Caseback is superb and unengraved. Case measures 43mm long and 24mm wide. Original black numeral dial is superb. Glass crystal is superb. The watch is powered by a 7-jewel Elgin grade 488 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
