Extremely rare Hamilton "Gordon" men's special order Plymouth Oil Company presentation wristwatch in platinum, circa 1951.

The platinum "Gordon" is a legendary Hamilton rarity and among the most sought-after of all Hamilton watches. According to Hamilton factory records, the company ordered 52 special Gordon cases in platinum from the casemaker Schwab & Wuischpard in the late 1940s and early 1950s. All known examples of the platinum Gordon are engraved for the Plymouth Oil Company and have full diamond dials, and approximately ten examples are currently known to exist. The late 1940s and early 1950s must have been extremely productive years for Plymouth Oil, as the price it paid to Hamilton for each platinum Gordon was likely close to $600 per watch. This example is in excellent condition showing light wear and a some light scratches and marks. Caseback has correct etched presentation from the Plymouth Oil Company. Case measures 38mm long and 22mm wide. Refinished diamond dial is excellent. Has new glass crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 19-jewel Hamilton grade 982M manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.
