Elgin AOPA 24-Hour Pilot

Rare Elgin “AOPA 24-Hour Pilot” men’s Aviation design wristwatch in stainless steel, circa 1951.

Beginning in 1951, Elgin produced a special 24-hour pilot's watch for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. The movement has special gearing in which the hour hand turns around the dial only once every 24 hours, displaying true 24-hour military time, instead of once every 12 hours as in a conventional watch. The watch was available exclusively to AOPA members, priced t $49.50. It is a rare model and this is the first I have ever offered. It is excellent condition showing only very light wear.  Caseback is superb and unengraved. The case measures 41mm long and 33mm wide. Original black nickel finish dial is excellent, with the AOPA winged logo in gold, white, and black. Luminous numerals have been restored in the past. Has new acrylic crystal. The watch is powered by its correct 17-jewel Elgin grade 647 manual wind movement, just serviced and running strong.

Price $1,100.
